Lancaster Workers’ Comp Attorneys Help Workers Dealing with Work-Related Rotator Cuff and Shoulder Injuries

When an injury involves the shoulder, the pain is almost always constant and can be debilitating. Every motion—from standing up to laying down can be excruciating. Rotator cuff and shoulder injuries can result from falls, heavy lifting, repetitive motion and much more. One thing is for certain: if the injury is the result of the work you do, or has been aggravated due to your work duties, you are entitled to workers’ compensation benefits for your medical treatment, lost wages, disability and potentially more.

Fighting to get the compensation you deserve can be difficult, as many insurance companies fight claims for shoulder injuries, arguing that the injury is due to other factors, such as arthritis or degenerative joint disease. Don’t fall victim to the system and the big insurance companies whose sole purpose is to minimize the amount of money they have to pay out.

If you’re dealing with a rotator cuff or other shoulder injury, our experienced workers’ compensation attorneys at Georgelis, Larsen & Sabatino Injury Law Firm, P.C. can advocate for you throughout the process—from the initial filing or defense of a petition filed against you, to subsequent hearings through a workers’ compensation judge’s ultimate decision. We have aggressively fought for many others like you, who were being bullied into getting less than they deserved. We have recovered more than $90,000,000.00 for our clients who have suffered an injury—and we can help you too!

Common Shoulder Injuries

The shoulder is a large and complex joint that connects the upper arm bone to the shoulder blade. It is a ball and socket join, meaning that the ball part of the bone glides within the cup-like socket of the shoulder blade. This set-up allows for a large range of motion, but can make this area of the body very prone to injury. The most common injuries include:

  • Torn Rotator Cuffs
  • Bursitis
  • Sprains and Strains
  • Dislocations
  • Tendonitis
  • Separations
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Fractures
  • Arthritis

Treatment for these injuries typically includes resting the joint. However, for many, rest doesn’t resolve the problem and an orthopedic surgeon is needed to prescribe medication and/or physical therapy, or even perform surgery.

Symptoms of a Rotator Cuff and Shoulder Injuries

The most common symptom of a rotator cuff injury is pain felt on the outside of the shoulder that can sometimes radiate down the arm to the elbow. Other symptoms include:

  • A Dull Ache Deep in the Shoulder
  • Disturbances to Sleep
  • Difficulty Combing Hair
  • Difficulty Reaching Behind Your Back
  • Arm Weakness

Risk Factors for Rotator Cuff and Shoulder Injuries

The following factors may increase your risk of having a rotator cuff injury:

  • Age – as we get older, our risk of a rotator cuff injury increases, and we are more prone to tears. Rotator cuff tears are most common in adults older than 60.
  • Construction Jobs – Occupations such as carpentry, residential or commercial painting and concrete laborers require repetitive arm motions, often overhead, that can damage the rotator cuff over time.
  • Factory and Warehouse Work – When workers over-exert themselves by lifting, pushing, and shoving heavy objects, they can suffer serious shoulder injuries. Repetitive motions can also cause injuries to the shoulder.
  • Roofers and Plumbers – If an employee works in awkward positions for some or much of the day, it can cause a shoulder injury to develop traumatically or over time.
  • Power Tools and Equipment – The use of power tools and heavy machinery, over time, cause lead to issues with the rotator cuff and shoulders. The repetitive nature of the work and vibrations are the primary causes of this type of shoulder injury or condition.
